Amazing Sea Food at Bang Saen
Bang Saen(บางแสน) is the closest beach from Bangkok. This is a weekends resort for Thai people. I hardly see foreigners. Instead, there were a lot of Thai visitors who relax on the beach, swim in the sea, and eat food with their family and friends.
There were very long food stands in a line between coconut trees.
What attracted me was many sea food cocked at stalls. When I walked along the street looking at foods in excitement, vendors spoke to me a lot. If possible, I would have bitten every foods on the street...! Finally I chose two of them to try.
1. Puu Toot(ปูทอด) & Kung Toot(กุ้งทอด)
Puu Toot(ปูทอด) is a fried crab. It looked hard, but it was very crispy. I could keep eating them forever!
Kung Toot(กุ้งทอด) is a fried shrimp. There were small and big ones.
Owner said Bang Saen is famous for big shrimps.
The sound of shrimps sizzling in the pan sharpened my appetite !!
2. Yam Kai Mendaa (ยำไข่แมงดา)
It was first time for me to see this creature — Tachypleus tridentaus (Mendaa) on food stands. I dropped by one of the stalls where family members — mother, father, and two cute daughters —made dishes together.
How do they use Mendaa?? They use eggs of it! There are so many small yellow eggs under the shell.
Chili, onion, sour mango, coriander.
The daughter helped her father grind them in the stone mill, clockhin(ครกหิน).
The father made me try tasting sauce. It was confusion of spicy, sour, and a little bit sweet. Perfect.
